Affinity Designer not the same as the Workbook (split)

Recommended Posts

The interface of Affinity is not the same as in the tutorials. I bought Affinity a few weeks ago and the Work Book last week. I'm missing some tools

toolbars and the lay-out of some ajustments is also different. Do I have an old(er) edition of Affinity?

Probably or hopefully not. - Affinity Designer has different Personas like the Draw Persona, Pixel Persona & Export Persona . Further some of it's Interface aspects like UI panels etc. are customizable/rearrangable to the users needs or preferences. If you have the Workbook look into the introduction chapter which should usually show the different working personas, or look through the beginner and other Video Tutorials links here for the desktop version (note that there is also an iPad version which looks & feels different from the PC versions) from the forum, in order to get a better application overview.

The video tutorials are available on Vimeo and YouTube via these links:

Vimeo: https://affin.co/DesignerVids

YouTube: https://affin.co/designeryt

The tutorial set includes:

1. Getting Started

2. Artboards

3. Drawing Lines and Shapes

4. Colour and Opacity

... and so on ...

☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan
☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2

Also the workbook is made of MacOS screenshots and I think you have Windows, but they are very similar despite that.

What can you not find. Which page of the book is confusing you.

Sorry I gave your post the wrong title originally, I see now you have Affinity Designer on Windows, and have edited the reply above accordingly

Thanks for your reactions. I'm Dutch and my English is not perfect. I was not correct in my question. I meant Affinity Photo and I reacted on Designer. In Ajustments in Photo is in the tutorials a possibility to click above left (red dot with cross) to confirm the changes. I don't have that option. Perhaps there are differences between Photo en Designer. I'm discovering Affinity after using Photoshop for a long time. Maybe I need more time to find out why there are differences. I'llmake a screenshot. For now thanks for a lot of helpfull information.

Ah Ok so you mean in Affinity Photo then. The APh Desktop Video Tutorials for that one are listed here -> Affinity Photo Tutorials.

Hmm I'm not sure I understand or see what you mean here with " the possibility to click above left (red dot with cross) to confirm the changes" there for Adjustments (?).

But maybe you mean some other settings panel here and not on the top button bar or the second from top context based tool bars?

Yes there are some differences in option settings and available tools between Designer and Photo, so it depends which Affinity Photo tool or adjustment is meant here. And yes a screenshot would help to understand what you concrete mean in this case, so we can give some better advice and help!

Left screenshot my Affinity. Right from turotial.Watch left above the 3 dots. One red to close HSL. Its not a big problem but I found some differences in tools and I would like to know how this is possible if I have the same release from Affinity.

Ah Ok now I understand, what you see in differences there are just the common Operating System Window looks, so to say the overall different (Windows vs MacOS Operating system) Panel and Window look and feel. You have a WINDOWS version and the Workbook seems to show mostly MACOS image screenshots. - It's all in all already what @Patrick Connor suggested above, namely ...

... since on a Mac computer the window close/lower/hide buttons etc. are on the top left side and on the Microsoft Windows operating system those are on top right side. These are just small cosmetic look differences which shouldn't affect the overall usage of the application. It's nothing to worry about.
