PeterCPC
When I load a TIF file I can use all my plug ins ok. However, when I load a TIFF file I find that some of the of the plug ins are greyed out e.g. Topaz Labs and all but one of the Nik Collection. Why is this happening? Staff Gabe Posted October 31, 2018 Staff Share Posted October 31, 2018 Hi @PeterCPC, I could not replicate this. Can you please send us a screen recording of this in action? Thanks, Gabe.
Old Bruce
I would guess the colour format may be wrong for the plug-ins or the bit depth is 16 and the plug ins only work on 8 bit images. The extension difference may just be coincidental. Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 | Beta versions as they appear. PeterCPC
I captured it using a Corel product. Peter Capture 02.wmv
Staff Gabe Posted November 1, 2018 Staff Share Posted November 1, 2018 As @Old Bruce suggested, your bit depth is too high for that plug-in. Your document is RGBA/32 bit, and only one plugin support that. Not much we can do as that's the limitation of the plug-in. Change it down to 16 or 8 and they will work. PeterCPC
Thanks - that explains it. I will just have to ensure that I use TIF files in future. Many thanks. Peter
Staff Gabe Posted November 1, 2018 Staff Share Posted November 1, 2018 The file format is irrelevant in this case. It's the bit depth preventing you from using the plug-ins.
Fixx
TIFFs can be of any bit depth 1–32.
Old Bruce
I am under the impression that ".tif", ".TIF", ".tiff" and ".TIFF" are equivalent regarding the file's format. I know that not all OSs will recognize them as such though. Happy to learn if I am wrong. v_kyr
Well these are all valid file extensions for the TIFF format so apps and OSes should be usually able to handle all of these equally. The shorter three letter extension stems just from former DOS/Win 8+3 file naming times and shouldn‘t matter here.
