DirkB
The big one thing that always keeps me frustrated ist the lack of a simple color field based system like in the Adobe-family. Why I have to always use (CMYK i.e.) color wheels, slider and so. Keep it simple should be the agenda - AI shows that. When I want to "start with a simple red, magenta or cyan - this is so hard to accomplish with Affinity!!!! One of the simple reasons I almost always go back to AI if I need to do my work. Now, with the Publisher Beta its the same old story so that I will buy it of course but may never use it the way I could. Shame! Oh, btw. just stop the share button for Aperture in 2018 since its not a supported "platform" anymore. Why not using Affinity Photo instead? Thanks guys, great work with the programs nevertheless!!! fde101
A bit lost here on what you are missing... are you looking for the Swatches palette, or just trying to get to CMYK sliders instead of the wheel? You can change the mode of the Color palette using the hamburger menu in the upper-right corner; pick Sliders, then you can change the mode from HSL to CMYK or whatever. If you are trying to set up swatches as should be used in proper design work for publishing, use the Swatches palette instead of the Color palette. DirkB
Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I'm looking for the use of the Swatches palette similar to AI. Unfortunately its not possible the same way. This is at least in my eyes a huge drawback. Anyway, was just a suggestion to improve the program to "Adobe standard" since its mostly designed with those customers in mind I guess. DirkB
I do start most of the time by simply drawing the different shapes to the canvas and color them in different variations. What that means is, that I go almost all the time to cyan, magenta, red, green, yellow and so on. Of course I could do the same in Affinity by simply using any other color displayed, but why it isn't possible to show straight forward the simple color swatches palette like its demonstrated in AI. There you have the basic colors, followed by the different gray tones... That of course is something that may don't bother 90 % of the users, so it was just my 5 cent to the suggestions that may could satisfy 100% of the customers:-) It ist simple, it is effective and to be honest, many functions I have in AI are way to much, same applies to ID. The core functionality is by far enough for the daily job and in case someone needs the extra whatsoever - Adobe is still there. Oh, forgot to suggest @ Affinity... the color profiles should get updated. Most printing companies start using more modern profiles. Yes, I can install them by myself, just saying, it could be bit more updated in my opinion. Thanks and bye, bye.
Staff MEB Posted November 1, 2018 Staff Share Posted November 1, 2018 Hi DirkB, Welcome to Affinity Forums Affinity also includes a basic colour palette (no so basic as Illustrator but still). But if you aren't happy with it you can always create your own and save it as an Application palette to have it available all the time within the app. You can also import palettes in ASE (Adobe Swatch Exchange) format. To import them go to the Swatches panel, click the small menu icon on the top right of the panel and select Import Palette..., then the type of palette you want (document/application or system palette) and finally select the .ase file from the dialog that will open. fde101
You could also try the crayons or web safe colors swatch palettes to see if one of those is to your liking. Each of those provides a small set of colors and grays. Personally, for page layout work I would rather create a document swatch palette and add exactly the colors I need, as global colors. For most types of documents you will get better, more professional results if working with a limited palette and creating this for the specific document will make it easier to ensure that you are using the same colors consistently, and making them global colors allows you to quickly change the color scheme for the entire document later on if the need should arise. DirkB
Of course I could/can "create" something global/new, but the other software developer has shown an easy way already so why doing things more hard for the user ;-) the crayons and web safe colors are NOT the same and yes, could do the job but are not practical as the mentioned solution already available at i.e. AI. We get here into a loop I guess. I appreciate your help and support, but its hard to change old habits and once again... I just wanted to give a feedback as an graphic designer customer on what or how to make the software maybe slightly better, things that could be get improved ... still in my very own personal view, the way how Adobe is handling colors, color schemes (swatch libraries) etc. makes at least for me much more sense. BTW. its the same problem for me when I have to use (very very rarely) good old QuarkX. There I have tons of different color options, but the simple Adobe swatch is still unrivaled. Cheers and thanks again - I would end the conversation here.
