Still webp extension missing in export panel?

Recommended Posts

Nonsense! There are several plugins for the use of webp in Wordpress like https://wordpress.org/plugins/webp-express/

Seems like there are always people looking for arguments against good ideas for future development of Affinity like webp. We are using webp in every website we create including Wordpress for years now. All major browsers can work with webp except for Safari therefore we use a jpg fallback.

Only for Google & Co and SEO reasons you are a fool when you don't implement it in your website.

Example: A cross browser background image (unfortunately not possible to create in Affinity Photo without the use of a webp converter):

and no possibility to export webp ?  why ?

And why should it be? Did Serif somewhere declare that it would be implemented in this version?

Are you the lawyer of Serif?

Nobody ever said that Serif declared to implement webp!

If you are not interested in webp as a new feature of Affinity Photo spend your time elsewhere and keep your negative input for your self.

Users want webp implementation because it's used in modern webdesign and it makes the workflow easier! Did purchased Sketch a couple of months ago that has webp export to use aside Affinity.

Because de staff of Serif don't have a clue what is going on in modern web development!

Using any new file format does not mean to "have a clue" – and vice versa.
It even might mean to have a clue by NOT jumping into every available technology fashion.

Is All Media Lab besides WebP (or even instead?) using HEIF/HEIC or FLIF or BPG or PIK etc.?
They all might become – but don't have to – a standard because of advantages towards WebP.

We use webp and jpg fallback treated with jpegMini and GZip compression on the server!

The issue is that webp is used by webdesigners and works on any browser except for Safari so export webp in Affinity is common sense for us.

70% of my users use Chrome mobile or desktop so the choice is simple.

You might convince people rather by linking to a statistic of the spread/use of your desired WebP – just mentioning that you/your company does use it in any or many or all of your work is hardly a relevant aspect for developers.

The number counts. Even flash/swf might still be used by web developers.

go play somewhere else

Aha. So what do you care, waste your time and don't play with WebP successfully somewhere else? With such thoughts this discussion can't result in the implementation of WebP.

I care because I am missing an argument which might convince the Affinity developers. Just saying "we use it" or "it is modern" or even everybody is using it is very vague and not clear about the real usage and spread of this format.
