Hello,

I'm sure it is out there in this forum but spent 10 min searching with no results. I have a photo of a face that I would like to get laser engraved. How to you take this photo and turn it into a "bitmap" image as I am reading to do? Or at least turn a photo to a true B&W photo with dots?

Thank you

Hi LucidSurf :)

Affinity Photo can't currently export to the .bmp (bitmap) format, however the phrase 'bitmap' is occasionally used to describe a raster image of a different format, such as .JPEG. What specific file type does the laser engraver require?

In terms of a B&W photo 'with dots' you can use the halftone effect under Filters>Colours>Halftone. I hope this helps!

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!

It is possible to simulate 1-bit appearance in RGB and it is possible to export 1-bit GIF or PNG, but results are always dithered and can be unpredictable.

How do I do that then? I scan a lot of black-and-white images. VueScan scans them as a B/W tiff but they load into Affinity as 8-bit RGB. I convert them to greyscale and apply a severe S-curve (essentially a single step) and have to save as png-8.
