Split Text Box

This might seem an odd one, but it might be nice to have a command somewhere that takes a text box and splits it at the insertion point, leaving behind two text boxes that cover the area previously covered by that one text box, linked together, such that the text and insertion point stay where they are but the insertion point is at the top of the new frame.

Actually I would use that command a lot, if it existed.

It seem like an idea for a script in a future version of Publisher with script support added.

Breaking the link of text frames would be a good addition to the programme. It's included in Adobe InDesign...

It's already possible. Given two linked text frames, click on the link icon on the first one, then click inside the frame to break the link.

I think the OP wants to split the text in a single frame into to two frames (like a column)but to be placed where you want and have it linked.
So no  need to create a new text frame and have the text flow into it.

No, the text isn't gone. It ends up as overflow in the first text frame (the one whose link you broke).

Note that my response was not to the OP, but to Graham Hermon, but I take your point that what Publisher has implemented so far may not match what Graham wants to see, either

As for the OP's request, if the insertion point is at the start or end of a line, it's possible with what Publisher has now, though I admit it could be simpler.

1. Drag the bottom center node of the text frame up before that line, which makes the text after the insertion point overflow.
2. Draw a new Text Frame where you want it.
3. Link the old and new frames by clicking on the red link icon of the old frame and then clicking in the new frame.

Except that the initial placement would be positioned so that the text would stay exactly where it already was.

QuarkXPress can do this one, using the Linkster feature.

ID can also do this using the SplitStory script that ships with it or any number of scripts available for free (that are a bit more featured).

My ideal would be for the text to remain in the second frame. This provides better workflow when working with a document.

I think I figured out how to do this, in case it's helpful to others... Create multiple copies of your book, then in each copy keep contents from one chapter only and delete the rest of the chapters. Save these as separate files and then reassemble your document again using the merge documents/Add Pages from File function. I think it should work but I haven't do it yet. I can update those interested!
