DM1
Masks are always created White (white reveals/black conceals). You can select the mask layer and using Channels Studio, Select Mask Alpha then tap the three dots and select invert. This makes the mask black in the alpa channel. It will however still appear as a white rectangle in Layer Studio, but now it conceals, rather than reveals. Either way, when you paint on the mask the strokes should appear in the pixel layer being masked. Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). I think the OP is asking whether it’s possible to create a ‘conceal all’ mask directly, instead of having to create a ‘reveal all’ mask and then invert it as a separate step. It would be good to be able to achieve this by using a gesture such as long-press when selecting the menu option. I'd prefer it simply listed black mask layer or white mask layer options under the add menu. I don't think I could remember any/many more gestures. Yes, that would work for me. It’s not as though the menu is tremendously long! From memory, Serif PhotoPlus has ‘Reveal All’ and ‘Hide All’ options on its ‘Add Layer Mask’ submenu. That was my first thought, but when I tried it I got a chequerboard thumbnail instead of a black one, making it look as though it required a separate step to fill it. My mistake: I must have allowed myself to be distracted by the chequerboard around the mask icon in the bottom right-hand corner.
