Jaffa
Am confused, because when I go new and end up with a white page, it is not a layer. I then paste something onto it which is then a layer, but I would have expected two layers to be present, ie - the white page as one and the paste as another. Is there some workaround perhaps? firstdefence
If you are using Affinity Photo that white area is the Canvas, the canvas is blank i.e. no objects so no layers. Draw a shape or a curve, drag an image in or add text and you start to add content and consequently layers of objects. It's a similar thing in Affinity Designer, in Affinity Designer you can make Artboards, add Layers to that Artboard and save that Artboard as an Asset that can be used at a later date in any document you want. To see the Asset Panel go to View > Studio > Assets, from there you can create categories and sub categories and add assets to those categories. R C-R
No layer is created by default because there is no way to know in advance what a user wants to do with a new document. The Affinity apps have a few Assistant Manager options that you might want to check out, like the one that determines what happens if you paint with no layer selected, but there is no 'base' layer or need for one. Fixx
Yes, there are several kinds of layers and Affinity cannot know which one you need.
