google photos shrinks my photos

Recommended Posts

Photo starts off as 1.2mb in Google Photos, but when I download it to my laptop it shrinks to 792kb, is there somewhere I can adjust that?  Is it a jpg thing?  File stays full size when I save original on phone, to GoogleDrive, but if it goes to Google Photos it shrinks - even though I have the 'original size' selected on Google Photos.

Thanks

Hi nickpan,

How does Affinity Photo fit into this workflow?

Sounds like the image is being resampled on download, possibly by the browser/Google.  I believe Google Photos does have an option to compress images when they store them, so could be something related to that.

right at the end, when I feel like I'm editing a poxy thumbnail!  :)

Then, the next question might be: how are you getting the image from Google Photos into Affinity Photo?

Ah, I've sussed it.  When I checked GooglePhoto settings on the Mac, it said 'upload at original size'.

However, on the phone, on GooglePhotos, it was set to only 'high quality'.

I'd been foolish and assumed they would have synchronised something like that.
