TEcHNOpls
Hi, is there a way to install onto a usb drive or similar? I have a device that's not mine (my company) and I can use it off-hours, but I should not install SW on it, so I was thinking if there is a way to have it completely on external drive. If not, any other ideas? Quote "I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK, I sleep all night, and I work all day..."
ianrb
I understand most programs can be moved to a "new" computer But the other hand "your" computer might be considered a business computer Sorry; thinking as I type --- might be best to contact Affinity directly
Staff Gabe Posted October 15, 2018 Staff Share Posted October 15, 2018 Hi @TEcHNOpls, I'm afraid we do not have a "portable" version for our software, and we do not recommend installing it on a removable device. We cannot guarantee any functionality nor support for this case, as you need registry and temp folder access, which will be stored locally. Sorry. The best way would be to get this installed on your work pc. Thanks, Gabe. TEcHNOpls

As I understand it, that allows Windows users to start up from an external USB drive (or any drive not marked as "fixed). If that is correct, It seems likely that if your company will not allow you to install software on their computer, they would be equally unhappy about you starting it up from your own external drive with software you have installed on that. There is also the licensing issue to consider, since your license allows you to install the Affinity software only on computers you "own or control," but that is such a murky legal issue that I have no idea how it would apply in this instance. TEcHNOpls
That "control" is a bit murky, yes. Alas, I have no mobile pc of my own and I'll be on a business trip for a long time Quote "I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK, I sleep all night, and I work all day..." Alas, I have no mobile pc of my own and I'll be on a business trip for a long time The other thing to consider (if I am right about starting up from an external drive) is how well the system will perform, which likely will not be very well if you are using a regular USB stick or any drive that does not connect over a high speed interface like USB 3 or faster.
