Lock function doesn’t lock anything

Recommended Posts

What’s the purpose of the neat little padlock symbol in the layers palette? Is it ornamental, or is it supposed to do anything? If so, it certainly doesn’t prevent me from selecting a locked item, deleting it or anything else I consider worth preventing. I would appreciate a behaviour not unlike that found in Adobe Illustrator, where a locked object or group is actually, you know, locked.

I think they put that padlock there just to piss you off..... what a way of asking something..... everybody is rushing to help you.

Locking does just what the documentation (Help, Help, then search for lock) says it does:

Quote

Locking is useful when you need to prevent a layer from being moved or transformed unintentionally.

Nothing more, nothing less.

You’re right, of course. Sarcasm pisses those off who put some thought behind this when they implemented the function in its current way (and maybe had good reason to do it exactly like this), and reading the manual might have, well, not helped me, but at least made things clear. It’s always dangerous to expect the same function behind the same interface. That doesn’t work even between Adobe’s apps.

On the topic: I can still move/transform points on a locked object, or on objects inside a locked group, so it seems inconsequential, which is why I thought this was a bug.
