Shaped Image Boxes / frames

Recommended Posts

I cannot seem to find how to insert images that are not rectangular. I wanted to insert a round image, but had to create the image in another program and then insert it into the square image box. Other programs you can even use the pen tool to create an image box then simply "Ctrl. D" into the frame. Is this possible and I just haven't worked out how to do it easily?

Hi epenrice,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Create the shape you want using one of the shape tools or drawing one from scratch with the Pen Tool, then go to menu Layer ▸ Convert to Picture Frame. Drop the image from Finder (Mac) or File Explorer (Windows) over the picture frame or use the Place Image Tool  or File ▸ Place... command (with the picture frame selected) to insert an image into the picture frame.

Do you know if this can be done in Designer?

Sort of, make your shape, place an image on the page. Now in the layers pallet drag the image into the shape. Helps if you align and adjust the sizes first on the page.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

You can also draw your shape, then click 'Insert inside the selection' and then 'File>Place' your image and click and drag the image inside the shape - this method leaves you with an image you can still select and re-scale within the shape.
