Chris26
Hi, On the Print dialogue box we have FIT TYPE SCALE and FIT TO PRINTABLE, both terminologies self explanatory, that is until affinity invented something bizarre methinks. I have been experimenting and printing A4 Landscape facing pages designed to be read as A5 page booklet. Now when I use 12 and 14 point fonts and print out on FIT TO PRINTABLE, everything fits, except that my fonts are so much smaller than 12 point, more like 9 and 10 point, but it fits and the preview panel shows a good resemblance to the print and the on screen page. When I print on FIT TYPE SCALE, we have a TRUE output that is what I designed in affinity, IE 12 and 14 point print out at 12 and 14 point, Except that now it simply does not fit on the page and the preview does indeed have a red overlay indicating an error. The question I have is this: The latter printout does in no way reflect what I see on my design on screen. Mmmm........? This then appears to constitute reversal of wysiwyg, or a rather wysiNwyg. Old Bruce
If it is an A5 page you want to print why not set up A5 pages instead of A4? Not snarky, I am truly curious. Fit to Printable would take the whole page from the file and squish it onto the printable area of what ever size you have in the printer this will vary from printer and pagesize and driver in the computer. You are never going to get 100% with Fit to Printable, sometimes smaller sometimes larger. Chris26
Ok Bruce, maybe I did not word things correctly, It is an A5 booklet. In other words, 2 A5's on facing pages, which requires A4 paper. Same method as indesign. walt.farrell
It would be helpful if you were to provide some screenshots, and a sample .afpub document, that demonstrate this, Chris. Old Bruce
Thanks for the clarification. What is happening is the two A5 pages are being printed to the printable area of the A4 sheet, that is causing the shrinking with FIT TO PRINTABLE. 4 hours ago, Chris26 said: Except that now it simply does not fit on the page and the preview does indeed have a red overlay indicating an error. Do you mean that the printed page(s) are missing stuff? If yes then I think the printer is unable to print right to the edges and may have given you incorrect margin sizes. What I am guessing is that the A5 and A4 margins are not symmetrical for your printer. How much stuff are you missing and is it all around or just one side/edge of the paper missing stuff? For what it is worth I think you did word it properly, I was just being overcautious because I have been burned by my guessing wrong too many times. Chris26
What a complete idiot I am, just drunk another bucket of coffee and suddenly had a brain wave, more like a thunderbolt and lightening strike, I can not believe I just did this, I should be setting A5 facing pages and printing that on A4. Too many hours over the last 4 days on affinity, I deleted my post but can not delete these images and my brain is overclocked. I deleted the post but can not delete these images so have left an embarrasing digital footprint.......... can't believe I did this.....So I have just gone to spread setup dialogue, changed the dimensions to A4 landscape and clicked on SPREAD instead Of PAGE, this should fix it? Not used to working in this sort of workflow with dialogues all over the place so my fault. Chris26
So Now, all my print dialogues are messed up completely and it's all driving me absolutely nuts. Here are my screen shots and I am giving up, no blasted clue what the hell is happening anymore. I really think it is about time somebody at affinity went to the trouble too give a full tutorial on this blasted print dialogue, it's the most confusing thing I have ever come accross. And I would pay just to watch it. There are too many seperate dialogue boxes and its gets very confusing to be honest, spread setup doc setp page setup and they are all over the place. Old Bruce
6 minutes ago, Chris26 said: a full tutorial on this blasted print dialogue, Every printer is different, every driver for every printer for every version of every Operating System is different. And new printers are coming out all the time. It would take for ever. The first 9 StarWar movies were made quicker. This should be doable but it sounds like you do need a break from it.
