Picture frame tool in master page

Recommended Posts

Hi,

how does it work, to add a picture frame tool to a master page, so I can easily add pictures to my pages in the picture frame tool elements coming from the master page? When I add the picture now on the page (in the picture frame tool), the picture frame tool gets ignored and the picture is placed in full size.

Thanks Erwin

So I would like to add this as a suggestion. Please add this function, thanks.

For me this would make sense for "Picture Frame Tool" and for "Frame Text Tool", because I would like to setup a master page with empty Picture or text frames, give them the layout, shadow, ... in the master page and fill them with pictures and text in regular pages. This is very usefull for transcipts, where I have to put pictures and text on every page in the same way and same layout (which comes from the master page). It´s like ID CS4 handels this right now.

+ 1

This has been asked for repeatedly and we are hopeful it will come soon, but soon is relative so we must all learn the workarounds.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

  • 3 months later...

build 1.7.0.221 (windows) seems to go some way toward solving the problem..

I placed a picture frame on the master page

Then I went to one of the spread pages. The picture frame was visible. I selected it, and placed a picture. This immediately became an unlinked instance of the frame. With the move tool selected, double clicking opened a control so the image could be zoomed or moved.  The image does not change the master. However, the image does not appear in the Resource manager. Therefore it seems difficult to edit the image or even delete it.  It can be overwritten by another place. So, as things stand, the only way to edit it is externally and then do another place operation. Not very transparent.

Nearly there!

Hmm...

I tried creating a new document, dragging out a frame on the master page, then switching to the main page and dragging a picture from a Finder window over the frame.  Publisher crashed.

I tried this a few times with different pictures and it crashes every time.

The crash does not happen if I drag into the frame from the master page itself, only if I drag into the frame from a "normal" page.

Next I tried creating the frame then selecting it and File/Place, and that works, but as you indicated, the picture does not show up in Resource Manager.

Pictures dragged into the frame on the master page do show up, as to pictures added to one by File/Place while on the master.

There seem to be a few bugs in there...

Picture frames in Master Pages should be treated the same as Text Frames. So, when you are on a page and select one of the new options like Edit Detached, Edit Linked, etc. we should be able to apply the same options as on Text Frames.

Agreed, that makes sense and has nothing to do with the apparent bugs that I listed in my post.  I will be creating a separate report about those in the bug forum.
