I still use lightroom for cataloguing my pictures.

1. Will Affinity photo have a cataloguing capability in the near future?

2. Lightroom does not recognise the extension afphoto, so I cannot save Affinity worked photos, I have to export them  This presents another problem.  LIghroom recognises the extension TIF but Affinity saves as TIFF,  I cannot save in place. I have to export then import every photo into Lightroom.  This takes considerable time.  Is there a way to make Affinity photos recognisable in Lighroom?

There is no difference between TIF or TIFF, TIF is just a legacy extension when files used the 8.3 file name format, you should be able to change the extension from TIFF to TIF with no ill affects.

I doubt Lightroom will support the .afphoto format anytime soon and I don't think Affinity has any plans to add Cataloguing capabilities to Affinity Photo. There are numerous posts about Lightroom replacements.

I believe Serif have said they're working on a DAM (Digital Asset Manager), but there's no way to guess when it might appear. For now, finding another approach would be the best plan.

XnViewMP, properly configured, supports .afphoto files at least to the extent of showing the JPEG previews that you can tell Photo to save within its .afphoto files. And it will allow cataloging (tagging, etc.) the files.

Thank you First Defence for your response.  Affinity Photo will not allow you to save a document as TIF it requires TIFF and it sends an error message to that effect. , I had tried this already along with a number of other ideas. Lightroom catalog recognises both TIF and TIFF.It would be great if Affinityphoto would do the same.  Thanks..

It will, with a bit of extra effort, let you export with a TIF file extension but only if you run Windows.

But weirdly, in Affinity Photo for Mac, if you use the batch job "Save as TIFF" option:

Batch processing on Windows also creates .tif files.

So for both platforms, Affinity Photo is schizophrenic about which TIFF file extension it should use. o.O

Isn’t its use of *.tif for TIFF files entirely consistent with its use of *.jpg for JPEG files? :/

No, because

  1. when Exporting, Photo uses *.tiff and *.jpg; but
  2. when Batch processing it uses *.tif and *.jpg.

So it handles JPEG consistently (always *.jpg) but is inconsistent for TIFF (sometimes *.tif, sometimes *.tiff).

Edit: Unless one of the developers can provide a good reason for the inconsistency, it feels like a bug.

It's an inconsisty, since the app's UI itself uses everywhere TIFF for the file format extension and identification so far. Looks like some dev was stucked there to the old style 3 letter extension namings for batch processing.
