Affinity Designer for UI designers

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Right now Affinity designer is mainly aimed at graphic designers, but I think it could easily compete with Sketch or Photoshop for UI design.

Sketch is a nice idea but is riddled with bugs.

I like already Affinity designer a lot more and can’t wait to be able to do all my work with it.

For me the missing key features for UI would be :

  1. Pages and Art-boards (coming soon),
  2. A layout grid to easily create columns for our layouts (see Sketch)
  3. Some kind of smart-object / symbol to reuse pieces of the design across art-boards (see Sketch)
  4. A way to create buttons that you can easily resize without messing your text (see Sketch)

With these, I would already be in heaven, but I’m sure others have a lot more features ideas to improve Affinity designer for UI design.

I’m trying my first real UI design in Affinity so far the most annoying lack is the snapping tool, even with all options active I can't easily center an object.

Also, even with snap to pixel and all other snapping options active, I’m still having decimals when moving or resizing objects.

It seems the UI topic is already covered in this post, so it might be best to merge both.

Sorry about that, though I did a search before posting.

About the snapping, I tried the latest beta and you’ve implemented almost all that I could think about, you’ve done an outstanding job.

The last feature considering the snapping I can think about would be a way to quickly allocate several elements like Keynote or Photoshop (see attachement).
