Affinity Designer for iPad won’t recognize brush packs

Recommended Posts

Hi,

First time contributor :) I am trying to import a third-party vector brush pack into Affinity Designer for iPad. Unfortunately, AD doesn’t recognize the file - its icon is grayed out in the Files dialog.

In the Brushes panel, I tap on Import Brushes... and in the Files dialog, I navigate to the folder with the brush pack. (I checked the file name and its extension is .afbrushes) Nevertheless, Affinity Designer will not recognize the brushes file.

I then proceeded to try other third-party brush packs, such as this one

https://forum.affinity.serif.com/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=42210

or this one

https://forum.affinity.serif.com/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=3008

but with the same result: Affinity Designer for iPad will not recognize the file and grays out its icon.

Please advise!

Thanks,

Marco

The files  you have defences are compressed (zipped) and need to be unzipped first. You can use Documents by Readdle (free) to unzip the brush pack, then load the brushes. Just select the file and choose open in Documents. Tapping on the file in Documents will unzip it createing a new folder with your brushes in it. Use Document to upload the brush pack to iCloud or Dropbox then use Affinity brush studio, import brushes, navigate to the unzipped  folder cloud and pick the brushes.

Thanks DM1 for your reply!

As far as I can tell, I cannot unzip the .afbrushes file.

You are right that the original file was zipped. Like you write, I used Documents to unzip the original file and was left with the brushes file, next to two other files (a movie file and an image file).

When I try to import the unzipped .afbrushes file with Affinity Designer on iPad, AD does not recognize it.

Do I misunderstand and should Documents unzip the .afbrushes file?

Hi mbotta,

Welcome to the forums :)

Once the folder is unzipped and the .afbrushes file is available, please copy this to a cloud storage such as iCloud or Dropbox. There's currently a bug which occasionally affects importing .afbrushes files from your iPads local storage. Our devs are aware of this and are working to fix it, but copying the file to a cloud service and importing from here is the current workaround. I hope this helps!

Also note that some of the brushes you linked to are not vector brushes so make sure you are in the pixel persona before importing.

I am having the same issue; I have some brushes from my adesign MacBook version, sent them to google drive, and attempted to import them into the iPad version.

the afbrush files are all grayed out and I cannot import them. I tried opening them in both pixel and vector personas and no go.

I couldn't find more information regarding this bug so I opened a specific topic. Has internal progress been made to allow importing successfully from local resources?

I'm new to this community, what is the preferred method/location to submit a full scale bug report so this will be observed and more importantly addressed?
