Affinity Photo - Selection from multiple closed curves

Recommended Posts

Hey,

not sure if the way i do it makes sense even... what i am trying to accomplish is getting a shape from drawing curves, with the pen tool. The shape should look like the shape in the picture i attached. The issue is, to draw the shape, i needed to create 2 different shapes, because, they're obviously supposed to be closed. So, i have 2 different "layers" (they're called "Curves" in the layer section), and, when i select both layers, to display both curves, i can't select "Selection" in the upper pen tool toolbar, to make a selection from BOTH curves, which i would like to achieve.

Do i do this wrong? What am i supposed to do to get the shape as shown in my picture, and get a selection from it. Sorry, i'm a total beginner, and i probably misunderstand a lot of things in the program.

Hi chakko007 :)

If you select both your Curve layers and go to Layer>Geometry>Add (or right click, Geometry>Add) You'll see your Curve layers become one Curves layer. Select this layer, then the pen tool, and you'll see the selection option available in the context toolbar!

Combine and add do similar things depending on the curves positions relative to other curves etc, but I'd say combine is a more universal option and is what I meant originally, apologies!

Alright, no worries, and thank you so much for leading me to the right track. :)

Edit: Thanks R C-R. I think when i will learn some more about working with lines & curves/vectors, i will become more fluent in this. It's absolutely new for me, never did anything with it.
