text has changed into curves, why?

Recommended Posts

I had a correct tekst frame. All of a sudden, when I select the frame, in the layers panel the focus goes to a black square (Group). Under this I see a host of (curve) objects. When I try to edit the tekst in  my frame, this seems impossible. Instead I seem to select a curve. I had redo my whole document from scratch. Not nice,

It sounds as though you may have tried to terminate the text entry by pressing Cmd+Return (Mac) or Ctrl+Enter (Windows), which is the default shortcut for ‘Convert to Curves ’.

Also found it cannot be uncurved!

Backing up through the History panel you should be able to get to a point before you converted it to curves, I think. Of course, you'll lose anything done after that.

I wish I had no such shortcut!

You can customize most of the shortcuts via ‘Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts’.

That is why we need a story editor - this shortcut can be triggered by accident while editing text in a text frame. Fx an article. The entire paragraph will be converted to curves. At least. I assume no one will ever expect that to happen while the cursor blinks in a paragraph - or need the feature in text edit mode.

Convert to curves just shouldn't be available while typing editorial text.

Users should just remove CMD-Return from shortcuts. It is not really needed as shortcut.

It is not a RTFM issue for the many users. The feature is not needed there.
