All Media Lab
Hi Callum, Yes That's where I got the image from, but how exactly it's made with Affinity is not clear to me. Thanks, David
catlover
Please have a look at this thread also. Once done, then playing with the light direction can also make a difference. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/63431-mimic-chisel-hard-bevel-effect/&tab=comments#comment-328755

All Media Lab
Went back to Photoshop for this one, because Affinity has very limited effects to accomplish the desired effect. That's probably the reason no one knows exactly how to do it. The image I have put as an example at the start of this post is impossible to make with Affinity I think. I’m pretty sure @MEB would have told us if he’d had to resort to using something other than an Affinity app to create that example. gdenby
About 10 minutes for this. Hadn't used the fx for 2 years, and had to thrash about a bit. Not quite right, but I've got to go and eats some breakfast. Guest
Hello All Media Lab, You can do this with a "3D" fx by choosing the first profile and adjusting the settings according to the desired effect.
All Media Lab
Thanks all!!! But as you can see the results looks like it's on top the stone instead of in the stone. But not connected with the background. David
Guest
You can add a fx " Embossing creux " to simulate the engraving.
All Media Lab
Thanks reglico and all others! This is the best I could get with your help and the use of 2 clipping masks in Affinity Designer! Needs some fine tuning because of the too dark spots. The Photoshop one did not turn out well. Thanks again, David
All Media Lab
This one looks a bit better!
Guest
Looking at the result of your screenshot, I tried this: type the text, put it in any color. Duplicate the background. In the layers, take the upper background (under the text layer), drag it into the text thumbnail until you get a horizontal blue rectangle in the lower right part of the thumbnail. The text disappears. This one being selected, put a fx"'3D". Adjust the specular, ambient and light source colors to obtain the desired color. Check "Lock children". Fixx
Shadow and light should be other way round to make it look carved and not emboss.
