Olympus HI RES raw files shot down Affinity

Recommended Posts

The clue is above:-

“Adobe uses their own raw engine, we use Apple's. “

Hence LR works. Adobe and Serif use 2 different methodologies which isn’t going to change overnight.

My dad always told me, a bad workman always blames their tools….

Just waiting for Ronny Pickering…..

I understand that part. What I don’t get is how I can download an unsupported file to begin with.

Possibly it’s similar in format to a previous format, “but not quite the same”, so some photos load but others don’t, hence not “fully” supported.

Uploading these hi res files from my sd card to the iPad Pro is never an issue.

The iPad can transfer them but will not display the raw image (unless they are supported). It is showing you the jpg version it uploads along with the RAW version.

The good news is that Apple frequently update their raw engine to incorporate new camera models.

As someone previously explained, LR uses adobes raw engine. Affinity uses apples raw engine. As of this time Apple’s raw engine cannot decode the raw file, adobes raw engine can. I don't think I can make it any clearer. It will not work in Affinity until Apple update their raw engine (which they do quite frequently). So it may be that some time soon Affinity, using apples yet to be updated engine, will be able to iopen your Files properly. It’s not affinity causing this problem.it is Apple causing it.
