Viewing and adding Guides to Pasteboard

Recommended Posts

I was hoping that the last in the Affinity Trio "Publisher" had a true pasteboard (the area outside of the document) to behave in a similar fashion to other Page make-up Apps.

I find that I frequently need to place things outside the document boundaries for re-use later or just storage for notes on the document.

I'd like to setup guidelines that can outside placed (and be seen) outside the document boundary so bleed items can quickly "snap" them. Or a neat ideas would to just make the bleed "snap"?

Here's an example of a typical QuarkXpress template I frequently re-use. See the off page bleed guides?

Having a black surround is all very well for a slick looking app but we're here for work and need to see and use the outside space of a document.

Is there a valid reason why the pasteboard must be hidden?

Hi davedesigner,
Sorry the delay getting back to you. Assuming you have a document with bleed already set up (File ▸ Document Setup..., Bleed tab), go to menu View ▸ Show Bleed to display the bleed, make sure Snapping is enabled - the magnet icon in the main toolbar - (note Snap to spread must be ticked in the Snapping Options) to be able to snap to the bleed and View ▸ View Mode ▸ Clip to Canvas is unticked to be able to see objects placed in the pasteboard area.

<tumbleweed>  ...Aren't there any Print/Design Pro's out there that think the current dark pasteboard is a problem?

I just got Affinity Designer. I 100% agree with you. When i was designing in Adobe Illustrator CC i mostly designed on the pasteboard before i placed my graphic on the art-board. I use the pasteboard as sort of my pallet to test things out, and design. Also it would be great if Affinity Designer can have the guide lines go past the art-board and for it to bee seen on the paste-board.

It would be great on the next up dates on Affinity Designer to add a cut or scissors tool like Illustrator. My The other suggestion is not to make it that when you use the grid background that the solid opaque fill shape doesn't turn transparent when viewing on the art board. Its very distracting.

You should post them on separate topics, or find an existing topic about them and comment there.
