khperkins
Is there any way to apply an outer shadow (or other effect) to a drop cap? I tried it with the drop cap selected, using layer effect, but it applied it to the whole text block. Not seeing any easy way to do this. If there isn't a way could it be added? Thanks
khperkins
Actually I guess what I'm asking for is a way to style Drop Caps separately from other text.
A_B_C
There is currently no way to do this other than using a dedicated font.
Staff MEB Posted September 20, 2018 Staff Share Posted September 20, 2018 Hi khperkins, Welcome to Affinity Forums As A_B_C pointed out there's no way to style a drop cap (with layer effects) independently from the text block. Besides using a dedicated font, you can cheat adding a regular Drop cap through the Paragraph panel then creating an artistic text object with the respective letter and effects applied and placing it over the drop cap set by the paragraph panel. Alternatively simply delete the first letter of the paragraph, place the artistic text letter with the effects in the same position as the original letter and set the appropriate text wrap options to the artistic text letter so the rest of the text wraps around it (use snapping to help align the letter with the text). See screenshot below with examples of both cases (cheating on top placing artistic text object over the drop cap/wrap text options applied to artistic text object on bottom). khperkins
Any plans for adding character styles/decorations like drop shadows, etc.? Maybe replacing the not very useful underline and strikethrough character decorations with something that people actually use, or at least adding more decorations, like drop shadows, etc.?
