Affinity Designer app size

Recommended Posts

I’m having trouble figuring out why my affinity designer app is consuming 30gb of my iPad space. I removed the samples, only keep 1 or 2 projects on the app. Except no there are a few more. And have even cleared everything out of the Affinity Desingner iCloud/iPad files. I’ve deleted the app, and redownloaded.

Well, I just plugged into my computer and noticed this file named ‘inbox’ taking 396mb. Anyone know what this is?

Absolutely I’ve rebooted. I only was able to view the “inbox” file when I plugged my iPad into my labtop, and in the left sidebar menu of iTunes labeled “File Sharing” I was able to view this.

Ive tried uploading a screenshot but the upload keeps failing, I’ll try again once in a few minutes.

@GabrielM I don’t think so, the “inbox” folder is clearly located inside the Affinity Designer app when selected in iTunes.

In my AFD settings I had history saving turned off but figured I’d check the documents open anyway, although there were only two which I didn’t think contained very much data, when closed that too the AffinityD size from 32gb to 3.25 gb.

So problem solved for now, I just have to keep in mind to save and close documents.

Hello!

I too am having trouble figuring out what exactly is taking up space by AD. It’s taking up nearly 30GB by “Documents and Data” but I only have like 12 projects and each of them are no more than 20mb large. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this? Or is this expected behavior?

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums. :)

The installation includes creative content like assets and brushes. You can edit and delete them so before you do they are copied on first run. Being sandboxed you cannot edit or delete the ones in the installed files, it's not allowed.

So the space is creative content like brushes, which are high resolution and plentiful

Hi! I just had this same problem. I recommend saving the projects you have open, and closing them out of AD if You can. And There’s a feature in settings that I can’t remember the name of, I’ll check when I get home. But it gives you the option to save work history, and even if the projects are no more than 20mb it’s quite possible the history saved with those projects could be pretty heavy. Maybe. I dont work for Affinity and was asking the same questions 12 hours ago, this is just what worked for me. I may be completely wrong, but try it out

1. Check settings referring to ‘work history’ (I’ll get the name a little later)

2. Save any open projects and close them out

Patrick’s response above was good, but it’s hard for me to believe because when the app was downloaded it was nothing of that type of size. It sounds more like an automated response.

Oh, then my educated guess is incorrect, sorry. As you say the size would be taken up on first run if it was brushes and assets.

@Patrick Connor

Hi Patrick,

You're response was great and well written, probably why I thought I could’ve been an automated response  haha

But yeah, when the app is downloaded the size isn’t nothing near to 30gb, I’m still unsure why the size of Affinity skyrockets as you add projects. It’s understandable, and I know Affinity is much more advanced than most. But the difference in size of Affinity and other apps is very significant? Just an observation, I’m still trying to educate myself in the digital space

Idk man, it jumped from 29GB to 41GB today and all I did was start a new project that only has one layer in it

Hello everyone,

This is my first post here, as I just registed to use this because this JUST happened to me right now, and I can't find a solution, my iPad is only 32GB and this app has jumped to 30GB...is there any solution?

Hey there! There’s absolutely a solution. Have you. It’s been a while since I had this issue and I don’t work for Affinity so I apologize if it takes a couple shots to get this right. Here are a couple things to try:

1. Be sure to save/close any older projects out if you’re able to. When your projects are saved the history is saved also and can grow quite large.

2. But doubtful to be 30gb, so plug your device into your computer and try backing up your device. (I think this was the solution in my case)

let me know if this helps or not.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I saved the project and closed out of it but it didn't really do much. Last night it dropped from 30GB to 17GB and then went back up to 33GB...I am not a dedicated Apple user as this iPad was a gift, so, I can't connect this to my computer. I have nowhere to connect it in order to back it up. I don't have much of anything on it either. I don't store photos and whatnot. I transfer most of what I save onto a duo thumb drive that plugs into my ipad and into my regular laptop (running Linux) but it doesn't read my iPad directly... so I'm at a loss. I was thinking about going to the Apple store today to see if they have some ideas on how to resolve this.

I'd like to finish my current project and update my apps which I can't do now (this is a 32GB iPad)...

and it literally dropped down as I was writing this reply and went for the screenshot....this thing is acting funny

This is another reason why I'm confused

Is it a glitch?
