Selection from shapes ?

In the Designer help files it says

To create a pixel selection from a drawn line or shape (path).
1. Do one of the following.
• Using the Pen tool draw a curve or closed shape on your page.
• Select a previously drawn curve or shape and then select the Pen Tool.
2. From the context toolbar, tap To Selection. 

OK, where is it?

I know the Designer grey on black interface is notoriously hard to see, but this is ridiculous

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, I'm relatively certain that the help file is not correct, as selections need to be made in the pixel persona and there is no pen tool available here.
I believe the current help file was written using parts of Photos, in which you can create a selection from a drawn shape from the context toolbar, see my screenshot below:

Currently there appears to be no way to convert the drawn path to a selection, but it may have been a 'by-design' choice for Designer iPad as this is the same behaviour as Designer desktop. I'll be raising the issue with our devs & documentation team and get back to you asap!

@toltec I've heard back from the documentation team and they've confirmed this shouldn't be in the help file as it isn't a feature available in Designer.

We'll be updating the help files for the next update, thanks for helping us out here

Did you perhaps mean [Affinity] Photo rather than [Apple] Photos?

It's missing an apostrophe, I meant "Photo's" as in belonging to the Photo help file!

I too had this question and searching where the “To Selection” button was hiding.....

A 3rd party PDF help file also pointed to the button that was merely a mirage referred to here
