Has the help file got ahead of the reality or am I missing something? Interpret "are created in" as "you should create these in", or perhaps "you can create these in". jweitzel
At the Moment I have some time, to test that aspect. I've choosen the "cumbersome" way, I think of walt.farrell. But I think, it's not soo cumbersome, as I had the impression. At first, it seems to me logical, that I need 2 very small text frames in order to place the field-variable "start", and to place a target – which both has to flow with the flowing text (i.e. changing the page if mor or less text). I did not use assets etc. I just draw a very small textframe, cut it out (cmd + x) and pasted it where needet at the start-point IN the text and at the target-point in the text. Then I activated the first small frame with the text flow tool and linked it to second frame n pages later (see the thin line in the screen shots). In the first text frame I put in the field/variable as described in the online help via: Panels –> references (? I use German version) –> fields –> follow up (?) –> next frame. And at once there was the correct page number. Voilà. Here the screen shots. The start situation: (the text says: "Please read on on page ...." aAnd here the target situation. Both frames have the correct font and size. The target frame has not any content, it is only needed as "flowing point" or target anchor. Thank to all contributers on that topic. walt.farrell
Thanks, @jweitzel. Note that Publisher 2.2 is planned to have a more robust cross-reference function, which should make this much simpler. It was initially planned to be in 2.1 (currently in beta test), but given the feedback Serif received during the 2.1 beta testing they have decided to move it out to 2.2, instead.
