Indic Fonts

Recommended Posts

Indic fonts (Gujarati) are not supported, this is an existing issue with Designer and Photo.

Threads on the forum have mentioned that this would be resolved with the release of Publisher, but this is not the case.

I am from kerala, this is a 100% literate  state in India, the langauge Malayalam thus has a reader/writership of about 20million, you can imagine the strength of this language,

now adobe indesign has a very good support of this language, excellent hyphenation, excellent script support. you may consider this language for the future development of this program

Hi @AAP,

Welcome to the forums.

Thank you for your report. We are aware of this and has already been logged with our developers. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Thanks,

Gabe.

Hii,

It's been a long while. What was told during designer days was that this would definitely be addressed in Publisher, is still nowhere close to fruition (Refer:

Yes, true, we're not entitled and in position to be demanding, but feel left out that this is being not addressed and the more time it takes, the more it forces some of us to cave in and purchase Adobe Publisher or CorelDraw, purely because some can't just wait anymore, owing to professional commitments, etc.

Please provide a workaround or something so that we can jump on the Serif bandwagon wholeheartedly.

Thanks.

Even tiny app like sk1 (https://sk1project.net/) support Indic Language :D

That is because they use some open source libraries to render the text. But those FOSS libraries have some bugs and limitations which are unacceptable in a professional graphics application.

The SK1 home page mentions Pango.
Where that is used in LibreOffice it causes some font weights in a font family to simply not appear anywhere.
"Sorry but Medium is not available" would not be acceptable here.

This is why high-end graphics applications build their own text rendering engines. And each language takes a huge amount of work.

They understand the need and have said it is in the plans.
