thomasbricker
The most pressing question in my mind as I get ready to adopt Publisher is, can I import/open InDesign files into Publisher. On first attempts, I’m not seeing a way. And IDML files don’t work either. Thoughts? Clara Montseny
Staff MEB Posted September 4, 2018 Staff Share Posted September 4, 2018 Hi thomasbricker, Currently Affinity Publisher doesn't import InDesign files (both .indd and .idml). We do intend to add support for .idml in a future update/version. Sabine 108
You could open/import PDF-Files (of InDesign-files) pretty well. Clara Montseny
thomasbricker
Ok. I guess I will try the importing of PDFs for now. But quite honestly, MEB, wrangling InDesign files will be very critical in a lot of peoples workflows. Within this profession, most designers have been using InDesign for printed layouts and designs. I have been waiting for AP to come out to complete the "trifecta" of professional design (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign). So I can say goodbye to the entire Adobe ecosystem and fully adopt Affinity. I need a bulletproof path to open and convert InDesign files. I am not alone in this. themanwho
Staff MEB Posted September 4, 2018 Staff Share Posted September 4, 2018 Hi thomasbricker, We are aware this is a critical feature for most users. As said above, we are currently working on it. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software

p_scrimshaw
Just wanted to jump in and second everything 'thomasbricker' has said. So looking forward to completing the set. The speed of your apps is something I will never get tired of. Indesign has served me well but its way too bloated now, to the point I really don't enjoy using it. Please forgive me for being a nag. I keep tossing this in wherever possible, in high hopes. Quote 24" iMAC Apple M1 chip, 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 16 GB unified memory, 1 TB SSD storage, Ventura 13.6. Pete Yeah, I just did a complete identity job this weekend all on my iPad and Apple Pencil, using Affinity Designer and Photo. All from the comfort of my living room couch Worked seamlessly from start to finish. Best thing since sliced bread. Just need Publisher and then it’s adios Adobe. dannyg9

Sabine, Thanks for the suggestion. I tried opening my print-ready PDF I had generated from the InDesign file. Worked perfectly! Images, Fonts and Formatting all perfectly intact. Problem solved! Thanks. Heads up people. Thats how you do it. p_scrimshaw and Clara Montseny
