jango_fx
How can i export a PNG at specific pixel size?? I have a file that is 2400 x 50976 pixel big. I export that file as 2400 x 50976 pixel big PNG. I open that PNG. And it's somehow only 1542 x 32767 pixel small...
Staff Dan C Posted September 4, 2018 Staff Share Posted September 4, 2018 Hi Jango_fx The following warning can be seen in the export dialog in your screenshot: 'ACHTUNG! Das PNG-Format unterstützt eine maximale Bildabmessung von 32.767 Pixel. Ihre Ausgabe wird passend skallert.' TRANSLATED - 'Warning! The PNG format supports images with a maximum dimension of 32767 pixels. Your output will be scaled to fit.' This is why your image is being scaled down, I hope this helps! jango_fx
(illiterate/eyeless me...) still: is there a reason for this maximum? i need this size and format for production. TIFF for example doesn't seem so have such limitations. And ImageMagick seems to be able to convert a TIFF of that size to a PNG of equal size. But having to rely on yet another tool, seems to defeat the purpose...
Staff Dan C Posted September 4, 2018 Staff Share Posted September 4, 2018 It's mostly due to memory limits, it takes considerable amounts of RAM to open an image larger than this and we didn't want to limit the software to users who are using computers with less than 2GB of RAM (our minimum required spec). More info for this can be found here, along with the following quote - Quote The PNG format uses a 32-bit field to store the width and height, so that's not the problem. However, GDI in Windows uses signed 16-bit values in some cases for physical coordinates, which limits you to 32,767 pixels. I must admit I'm not overly familiar with the PNG format, but these two reasons are the main ones

At 300 pixels per inch, the image is going to be 4.3 metres long, and no one is going to stand as close as 30 cm to look at it. If you halve the pixel dimensions (for an output resolution of 150 ppi) it will be well within the technical limits and will still look good from as little as 60 cm away. jango_fx
7.3 meters actually. (8 yards @ 177 PPI) I can't just reduce the pixels. Its supposed be for a textile production. So 1px = 1 physical thread. And the producer only accepts PNG... But i guess than i have to have somekind of hack. Either combining multiple PNGs or converting TIFF to PNG...
