Affinity Designer Scanning?

Hi,
I'm looking at getting Affinity Designer for Windows. Is it possible to scan in original art work / hand drawn motifs with a transparent background, to then layer and design from.

You should scan with separate application and import image file to AD. Affinity does not directly support scanners.

There's no scanning functionality in Affinity for Windows due to poor 64-bit scan driver support. For now we suggest that you use the software that comes with your scanner and then open the scanned image in Affinity.

Great, so it is possible, you just can't scan direct.

I think the scanning capability should be incorporated into the windows affinity range regardless current sorry stater with 64bit Twain drivers support on windows. Thay may be some woraround like Twain64 to 32 bridge or siruation may improve with 64 bit drivers. Just to have the scan possibility into windows affinity range will be nice.

But why?

Filling Photo up with second rate software doesn’t really help anyone.

And scanning is very ‘last century’. I used to scan dozens of pictures daily, but only a handful this century. Most pictures are taken digitally, on a DSLR or phones and documents sent by PDF.

Sure, there are occasional uses, but there are several utilities that do the job better and quicker. Scanning was always pretty much a separate app (like a plug in) so why not a separate app? I use Faststone to scan, view, crop, resize, make minor edits and organise. Much better than any plugin for Photoshop I ever used and pressing E to load a scan into the main editor (Photo) is no harder than pressing OK on a plugin type driver. But being able to view 50 scans before deciding which one to edit, beats the old fashioned, clunky one at a time approach. Even if I had scanner plugin support, I wouldn’t use it.

Faststone is much more 21sr century

FastStone MaxView (US$19.95 for a lifetime licence) can acquire images from cameras and scanners. FastStone Image Viewer (free for home users, US$34.95 for a commercial licence) includes support for batch scanning to PDF, TIFF, JPEG and PNG.

I do not do much of a scanning of the pictures. I do not see scan feature in affinity as realy necessary, just as a nice decoration. I think more important features and bug fixes shoul have a priority. To be honest most of the scanning I do are the documents passed trough OCR .
