Any text variables?

Recommended Posts

Hi again,

Is there a way to use text variables?
I would like to insert a variable on a master page in the footer area that shall contain the current header name (Header 1).
On large documents, this is important to give the reader a hint which section he is currently reading.

Not as such...but you have Fields [View/Studio/Fields] that let you use Sections and Section Naming identified from the Pages Panel [Right Click on selected page and select Start New Section]

There are some variables available, which you can see/copy from the Fields panel (View > Studio > Fields) but I don't see current header name. There is one for the current section name, though: image.png.dc2559b1037248c1dec1c6e60e006d5c.png

N.B.if you double click on the Name of the fields (Name: / Page Number: / Date & Time: etc) the field is inserted into the text at the current caret.

Thank you all!
View > Studio > Fields and using sections in the page panel seems to work (though I would like to see the current Heading 1 text (or any other by settings), in the Fields for a more dynamic build-up).

Sorry, I dont get it...

Can someone explain to me how to do this ?

How do i insert a "Field" where do i find it..  unter Text/ insert/ field ?   and where do you copy the variables from ?

Text > Insert > gives you access to most of the available fields. You simply place your cursor where you want the field to be inserted, and choose the one you want.

There are a few more in the Fields panel (View > Studio > Fields). Some of these fields are modifiable by the user (e.g., the name of the author). For the modifiable fields, you update the content by clicking in the field content box and providing the information. Some are not modifiable, and their content is determined by Publisher. For any of the fields in this panel, if you doube-click on the field's name then Publisher will insert the field's contents into the active text object at the text cursor location.

is there a way to display such fields in my text if wished in another color or with a frame , just to be able to determin where i filled in fields a bit easier ?

I'm not aware of any configurable options that would do that. I think you'd have to apply such formatting manually.
(Better answer from Aammppaa below this post.)
