Tab Key within tables and 'show special characters'

Recommended Posts

I understand that tabbing through a table is often the default, but how do you add a tab within a table cell if when you go to hit the tab key it jumps to the right cell and highlights all the copy within it.

I've also noticed that tabs are not being shown in some text boxes 'show special characters' as the attached images show there is a tab before the word Objective (not shown) then when I place a tab rule and hit tab the new tab shows but the previous tab is still not shown.

Select a tab character from within a non-table text frame and copy and paste it into the table cell.

In your lower image, the word "Objective" is aligned to the first line indent (the downward-pointing arrow at the top of the text ruler). I don't think there's a tab in the text.

I'm aware you could copy & pasta a tab from another text box; but what that forces the end user to do is at least 5 click/key strokes instead of one. Imaging you are setting parts brochure where you have tables with numerous indents and bullets and your muscle memory is to tab • tab etc. Or as above 5 click + • cmd V. Then you copy something else in the layout and you need to go back to the table to add more bullets etc... you just added time onto your workflow.

Yes there was there is a tab before the words Sample (Not shown) then I add a tab rule and then tab and hey presto I see the second tab mark but not the first which is not an indent.
