Adding Asset has a problem

Quite possibly I haven't figured out Search properly since it seems the Beta forums are greyed out.  My apologies for not having much experience here.

In any case, experimenting with creating an Asset - in this case a simple silhouette of a cat.

First, I don't seem to be able to drag the selection onto the Assets Frame.  I can't do it in the current Designer so perhaps there is some special way one has to drag.

Second, when I add the asset from the Layers panel with Add from Selection, it comes up with a strange pattern (see attached files).  Selecting the strange pattern and dragging it into the document, it indeed remains a cat.

An earlier experiment with Assets caused the application to terminate (and report submitted).
