Affinity Designer Customer Beta RC3 (1.1.2.23834)

Recommended Posts

I would like to see a function "Search by name".

My workflow in AD is the same as Cinema4D and I use this function very often when I got tons of objects lost in hierarchy.

In general, the objects manager is very powerful in C4D, some functions could take place in AD.

Refresh in the view is not optimum.

I've a draw with complex effects (shadows, bevels, color adjustments, gradients, etc) and when I mask some elements, refresh can take several minutes.

mac pro hexa 3,33GHZ / 16 Go RAM / Radeon 7950 3Go.

My mac is too weak ?

Can you send us your file to support@seriflabs.com. It shouldn't take that long to render so it would be great to test your document.

Can you guys add Shift + x keyboard equivalent as a shortcut for swap Stroke and Fill colors, instead of having to go find the tiny, double arrow icon next to the color indicator. It's a HUGE time saver and would be great to get into the next MAS version. This would work in both vector and pixel personas... thanks for everything you guys do!!!

As before, we would appreciate it greatly if you are able to spend some time looking at this release candidate version and thoroughly testing it, letting us know any issues that you are having with it …

Considering these lines, I thought it would be useful to let you know that I still can reproduce the following bug, found by Ronny some time ago:

https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/6231-affinity-designer-customer-beta-rc1-11223308/?p=26364

The Blend Ranges bug is also still reproducible (or ain’t that a bug at all?) ...

https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/6428-affinity-designer-customer-beta-rc2-11223562/?p=27861

Does it make sense to report these things again? I definitely don’t want to seem annoying ...  :)

Cheers and thanks for your hard work, Alex

And please, could you insert a keyboard shortcut for the soft hyphen, "while you’re at it" ...  ;)

And wow, I have just seen that we can now separate the decimal places by commas in Affinity Photo ... at least in some localisations ... I would love to see this feature in Designer as well ...

And well, this might seem somewhat inconsistent: but why not allow placing commas in the English localisation as well? I must confess, I have quite a lot of non-localised design apps on my Mac and I am somewhat accustomed to the English terminology ... so I have not made the switch to the German version of Affinity Designer yet ... but on the other hand, I would really like to have the option of typing commas here as well ... does that make sense?

Select Previous and Select Next keyboard commands are not compatible with default Wacom Intuous Pro tablets Touch Ring feature. Currently AD are uses Com + Opt + [ and Cmd + Opt + ], But Wacoms are pre-configured to use PS keyboard equivalents which do not use the Cmd key, only Opt + [  and Opt + ]

Just an FYI, so that users don't have to do another custom setup...

FYI

Issue with file export.  When you export a selection as an EPS file and you select to save the selection without background, The file saves OK but the thumbnail for it appears small and off centered.  It's difficult to see the preview of it in the finder like this.  However, when saving the selection with background, it works OK.

I don't know if it's by design. But you can't hold the spacebar to preview the object (stroke) without the boundary box, when modifying the pressure graph/curve in the strokes tab.

It is a welcomed bug if you ask me  ;)

Are you wanting to swap colors or swap functions?  A simple x works to switch colors.

Sorry about that.  I was thinking in terms of the Pixel Persona where an x does switch the colors.  We do need something similar in Draw persona.  And your suggestion of Shift-X would be easy to remember.

X only switches between fill and stroke being active. What we need is Shift + X to replace the stroke color with the fill and the fill color with the stroke one.

Hey LilleG, we need both the regular x shortcut (which already works to switch current color selection between foreground and background in pixel persona, or stroke and fill in draw persona) as well as the Shift + x, which swaps the stroke and fill colors.

In general, ideally wherever possible it would be great for the same functions in any persona have the same shortcuts. I'm still not in love with the zoom in pixel persona not being tied to the command>spacebar as it is in draw persona... when you're painting with a stylus, you don't have access to the scroll wheel zoom so I'm finding I have to jump to the navigator palette and click a little button multiple times... I'm not sure how many other shortcuts are different between the two personas that do the same function in both.

Hey team, I've been working a lot more lately in Designer for client work and I'm wondering if any progress is being made as far as node manipulation? Specifically scaling or rotating a group of selected nodes. This is a pretty critical operation I find I'm constantly coming up against. Right now I can move selected nodes, but I can't rotate or scale them because rotate and scale don't have a keystroke assigned workflow. Going hand in hand with this is some way to define a point of rotation or scaling.

There was some earlier discussion on maybe developing such a workflow, any news on this?

Thanks and great job on the last few rounds of betas! The app is feeling really comfortable :)

I mean, guys, *seriously*?

I am disappointed that Affinity still doesn't honour the users' regional settings… I could very well even have OS X set up to display all the interface in english (I have it in pt-PT, but that's besides the point anyway, as it will take ages – or maybe not even come to pass – until we get a pt-PT localization – and I'm fine with that… I've been living in english-UI land for 23 years now and have no issues with that fact), and still want it to recognize different decimal separators, as per my country standards (and also have it recognize international ones and convert them on the fly to the local ones, as I might wish to copy measurement info from foreign websites or documents – I'm hoping that the comma support is *added* to the period support and not an “either one or the other but not both” proposition).

I'm taking back the nice compliment I gave you on the Photo Beta forum right now, sorry… Can you still straighten this out before the final RC is submitted to the MAS?

Btw, @MEB and @ruimac, are you with me?… I know for a fact I'm not the only portuguese guy around here (and MEB is even, AFAICT, a spokesperson of sorts for your company), and I'd very much like to use my commas just like I was taught to at school. It's been, what, 24 years worth of muscle memory already? And I'm guessing you must have at least as much if not even more experience than I do (I find the latter more likely), so there's that.

[Edit and P.S.: Out of morbid curiosity, I did indeed try to change the UI language to see if I could try the decimal comma separator support but didn't get it to work in Designer with any of the localizations, nor did I find any preference whatsoever with which I might toggle it – not that I think, as I very clearly stated, that should even be a configurable preference but something universal and activated by default, but still. As for Photo, yes, I tried it in spanish and it worked just fine, as it should on *all* localizations and does in all Adobe apps already, so since you already have the necessary code in place, I'm hoping you can activate it in time for the final Designer update RC.]

About the slow refresh of some very complex objects :The best way is to rasterise them and the problem disappears.

In Personna, shortcuts for zooming (zoom +  > cmd+bar space / zoom - > cmd+alt+bar space) don't work.

When you have the arrow tool or marquee tool, it's ok but don't work with the other tools.

Shortcut X is great but Maj X (in AI, it inverses stroke and fill colors) would be very useful too.

Another thing : we can copy and paste style of an object to another object (cmd C / cmd maj V). Sometimes, I just want to copy colors but not the effects and inversely. Another shortcut ? A contextual menu for this ?

There seems to be some generic info in the Save warning dialogue window in RC3 which you guys may want to update with more pertinent info. Attached is the screen grab of the window I'm referring to...

Hi JGD,

I'm sorry if you feel we're not making progress quickly enough... We're obviously typing as fast as we can - but we can't afford to just throw stuff into the application because it causes bugs - and then we end up with a program that is not a nice experience for anyone. We've clearly shown that we're taking translations seriously by introducing this Designer update with the first 4 languages in it and also Photo Beta is now showing our intentions to add support for your regionalised number separators. This could not be safely added to Designer before it was submitted - it would require at least another round of testing as the potential for it to go subtly wrong and completely annoy users is high, so was deliberately left out of the final build. That's just the way it is. But when the next Designer beta appears it will obviously be there, fully working, just like in Photo Beta.

Miguel (MEB) is part of the team and, yes, he's Portuguese so might even be able to help us with Portuguese translations - that's his decision as it's not his primary role in the company, so we'll leave that to him - but I don't know why you'd imagine you'd have to wait a long time before a Portuguese translation was made available? We haven't scheduled it yet, but if there is enough real demand for it then it requires very little coding effort now that we have the other languages working, so it's mainly about how quickly someone could type the translated strings and someone else could review them.

Thanks,

Matt

Thanks, Ronny!  I'm guessing this is a little bug from the US English translations... :S

We'll get it sorted (but yes, it's already waiting for review in the AppStore with this oddity!)
