Jeremy Bohn
I don't see a way to hide the object frame edges and/or otherwise preview the document without all the extra guides etc. like InDesign's preview mode. Unless I missed something, this should be added. Cineman
Colin_Fredericks
Does selecting View -> Hide All Guides do what you want?
Jeremy Bohn
Sort of. It hides the guides and frame edges but it's all or nothing. There is a toggle to show and hide guides, so there should also be one to show and hide frame edges. It is also no substitute for a real preview mode as it doesn't hide objects that are on the pasteboard. Rachael000
A_B_C
You can hide text frame edges by deselecting View > Show Text Flow. In order to hide objects on the pasteboard, select View > View Mode > Clip to Canvas.
Jeremy Bohn
Okay, so Publisher needs an actual Preview mode that toggles all these things on and off with one command. And can you explain to me what "Text Flow" has to do with frame edges? It seems oddly named.

Thisismandatory
yes, I was searching for this as well... It seems that this is the 'preview'. It would be great if such a preview would integrate in tandem with proof colour preview.
wdc
Actually in order to get a true preview mode you have to 1) hide guides and 2) clip canvas. I think it makes more sense to have an all encompassing preview mode a la InDesign (that's one thing Adobe actually got right and probably something most designers have come to expect). I'm sure it's a simple coding fix ... make Clip Canvas the all around preview mode. AndyQ and Rachael000
Cristiano Falaschi
The preview mode, as in inDesign, is essential to have the vision of what will be exported exactly. Cineman
A_B_C
Absolutely. There should be a one-click solution.
Cineman
Yep. Should be a single key available by default that hides every type of visual aid or guide that is not a part of the content. Tap key a second time to bring back the working view. I use this constantly and would be pretty frustating to have to replace it with multiple menu options and shortcuts. Please set up a global / catch-all setting for this. Cristiano Falaschi and Rachael000

A_B_C
This one-click solution is already implemented in the new version. Select View > Hide all Guides or use Control + W on the Mac. Hide.mov
Tom Schülke
you also can use TAB, to see it fullscreen
Rachael000
I find it quite useful to have the dual option actually. I've changed my keyboard shortcut to "w" for the hide all guides, and to "/" for hiding the pasteboard. Sometimes it's nice to work on a clean page but useful to be able to see the information i have on the pasteboard that i still need to bring into the layout. evp
I don't get it. So you can hide some of the guides, but if you have a square background or a box without anything you get the X across ALL the time?? Is there no way to hide it? Thanks! Also, how do you change the keyboard shortcuts, as in: how do you apply the Command Apple key to the shortcut? what's the symbol? it only recognizes the letters or numbers, but not shift or Command... Thanks!! Edited August 9, 2021 by evp

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums. That sounds like you're describing emptu Picture Frames in Publisher. Preview Mode hides those for me. (And note that you're reading and replying to a topic that is over 2 years old. Some things may have changed in that time.) 29 minutes ago, evp said: Also, how do you change the keyboard shortcuts, as in: how do you apply the Command Apple key to the shortcut? what's the symbol? it only recognizes the letters or numbers, but not shift or Command... Thanks!! That's unrelated to this topic, and would be better asked in a different (or new) topic in the Questions forum. Clayton King
I know this thread's been going a while, but I've been searching how to turn off text frame outlines which I find distracting. Do I understand correctly that the only way to hide the frame is to hide all nonprinting items/guides?

MickRose
What would be really nice would be a kind of Super Preview in which text frames and other objects wouldn't show their frame even if clicked. They would show as selected in the layers panel but not on the main design area. Viktor CR 1 Quote Windows 10 Pro, I5 3.3G PC 16G RAM
