Ability to open InDesign files?

I just wondered if this has (or is going to ever have) the ability to open InDesign files. Seeing Designer can open AI's and Photo PSD's I thought Publisher would open InDesign (or IMDL?)

Good question would be great to open *.ai - can anybody already answer this?

I was wondering the same thing. The very first thing I tried to do was open one of my InDesign files.  I thought Publisher was supposed to be kind of an equivalent to InDesign.

Opening InDesign files is not something we are able to do for the initial release but we are looking to do it in the future. We can already open AI files if the file is saved with a PDF stream

Agreed, this would be perfect... possibly even the exchange format – IDML. That would help the transition from Adobe and remove the need to keep Creative Cloud for legacy files.

About this topic, in another post somebody suggested this:

Export Indesign files into PDF (I suggest max resolution). Open the PDF in Affinity Designer. Save it in Affinity Designer format. Then open it from Affinity Publisher. It work quite well... not perfect, but a good way to work on ID files into Publisher.
