There’s a ‘Deselect’ option on the Commands menu (with the ‘...’ icon) in the Selections persona. I’m not aware of any other way to access this function.

You can also press two fingers on the screen and there will be a 'Deselect' option in the commands that pop-up.

Windows PCs. Photo and Designer, latest non-beta versions.

Hmm ... here’s a thought: what happens when the ‘two fingers undo, three fingers redo’ method makes its way across from Designer to Photo? :/

Looking at AD on iPad just now, I couldn’t see how to deselect a ‘marching ants’ selection. o.O
