First question, changes are saved when you tap the return to home screen. To save permanently use the menu file save a copy within the file or close the file and in project screen tap 3 bars and select save.

2nd question, look for Lighting under Filters Studio.

It can be confusing but tapping the Home button when you are through editing a photo does not actually close the document. It is still in the Affinity app's private document storage space & available only to that app, the same as when you are editing it. One of the help topics or videos (I can't remember which) says you can think of the Home screen as more or less equivalent to the desktop app's tabs, where each document tab represents document opened by the app for editing.

Only when you save the document from the Home screen using the 3 bar popup menu is it saved to a file, & likewise it is not closed until you choose that option from the popup menu.

This is required because of the way iOS application sandboxing works. I don't think there is anything that can be done in the Affinity app to get around that.

Even more confusing you can close the app without doing a menu Save and still keep your edits/changes. Only when you use 3 bar menu Close, without first using 3 bar menu Save do you lose the changes!
