Artboard & Export Persona proxies

Recommended Posts

I'm using Affinity Designer to create 2D video game art. I've found an inefficiency in my workflow, and I'm hoping there's a better way to handle my situation. When creating the art, it's laid out as a complete piece, however, I also need an export layout as a sprite sheet to fit as many pieces as I can on a given pixel size export (i.e. 1024x1024). Currently, I have an assembled version of the art, and a duplicated export version with all of the pieces in artboards and laid out efficiently for export as a sprite sheet. The problem is that the art typically needs to evolve over time as issues are discovered in animation, or the style queues are changed. It's difficult to modify the art when it's all laid out in pieces, and time consuming to maintain the assembled layout as well as the export layout. Is there a way to use proxy art for the artboards and export persona so that I'm only working with one set of art?

Thanks!

Hi @crazyM

Have you discovered/investigated Symbols? I think they could go some way to helping.

Cheers

I dumped the duplicates and created symbols from the original layout components, then created symbol instances for the artboard / export persona. Super easy to use and now I'm only editing the single symbol when I need to make changes. Thanks again!
