Vince42
I have a question to the design pros: I need to create "scratched fonts" like in this screenshot: I guess I have to use a brush and to erase the font to transparency ... somehow. How?
MikeW
You could always look for a grunge font that everyone is happy with--at least if more than a string or two.

h_d
Presuming you don't actually want to create a completely new font but just apply an effect to existing lettering... Here's one way. Type the text using the Artistic Text tool: With the text layer selected, click the mask icon in the layers panel to create a mask layer nested under the text: Switch into pixel mode and then choose the Brush tool. From the brushes palette, select a brush that gives a 'streaked' effect: Select the Mask layer by clicking on its icon in the Layers panel, and set the paint colour to black: Set the width of the brush to approximately the same size as that of the lettering (but if you enlarge the brush too much, you may get a rather coarse effect). Paint on the Mask layer: If you switch back to vector mode the text layer will still be editable.
