Boolean Games 3 Posted August 19, 2018 Hi all, I'm Greg, and I run a game development company called Boolean Games. Always liked the Vector art style, so thought I'd give it a go myself. Initially tried Illustrator but disliked the pricing etc, currently on a trial with Affinity so far but I really like it so I'll end up buying it This is roughly the level that I'm at but the inspiration was my 2 year old daughter and a possible design for the feature wall in her newly decorated bedroom. https://boolean.games
firstdefence 1,129 Posted August 20, 2018 A few pictorial tips. Make a group of cloud shapes with about 5 or 6 bumps, arrange them how you like and select them all then boolean add them create a rectangle, make sure its above the shape and choose boolean subtract You should end up with a nice cloud shape Change the green on the trees, its too dark and while your at it move the apples about on one of the trees to give a slightly different look. What about putting something in that she likes, like a character from a story or a toy something personal, I know she's only 2 but I think that would be nice. 1 LovesToDraw408 reacted to this iMac 27" Late 2015 Fully Loaded, iMac 27" Mid 2011 both running High Sierra 10.13.6 - Affinity Designer/Photo, Publisher Beta 1.7.0.140, Illustrator CC, Inkscape, Blender, Sketchup, Pepakura Designer, MTC, Pixelmator & Pixelmator Pro + more... I think the grass is too light, especially against that pale blue sky. The black things would look less like giant flies and more like birds if those fat tear shapes were replaces by thin curves. 1 LovesToDraw408 reacted to this Alfred Affinity Designer 1.6.5.123 • Affinity Photo 1.6.5.123 • Windows 10 Home (4th gen Core i3 CPU)Affinity Photo for iPad 1.6.11.85 • Affinity Designer for iPad 1.6.4.45 • iOS 12.1.1 (iPad Air 2)
firstdefence 1,129 Posted August 20, 2018 Draw a long triangle Rotate it and convert it to curves Select the Node tool and click/hold on the top horizontal line and bend it upwards, do the same with the bottom line Duplicate the shape, flip it and move the flipped shape to look like the image below, now boolean add them together Duplicate the bird shape and move them into a flock of birds and angle them a bit Congratulations, you made a flock of birds lol! iMac 27" Late 2015 Fully Loaded, iMac 27" Mid 2011 both running High Sierra 10.13.6 - Affinity Designer/Photo, Publisher Beta 1.7.0.140, Illustrator CC, Inkscape, Blender, Sketchup, Pepakura Designer, MTC, Pixelmator & Pixelmator Pro + more... snuffleberries 17 Posted August 22, 2018 Hi, I'm glad you are having fun with Affinity Designer. Its a great product. Something I find improves drawings a lot is having gradients rather than just solid colours. Using the gradient tool (key G) you can easily draw a line on your object and set the colours of the two end points. The gradient tool is far more advanced than just that, but its an easy way to start. I had a little play with your picture and came up with the following. I didn't want to change it too much from the original. For the clouds I find that stretching the single cloud object doesn't look very good, I find it better to overlay several non stretched copies over the area. I used firstdefence's idea for the birds too :-) I've included the .afdesign file incase that is helpful. gdenby 531 Posted August 22, 2018 Hi, Boolean Games, Hang on! You dipped your toe into the pool, and now folks are pushing you out to where you'll need to tread water, or at least bob up and down. Relax. It will be fun. snuffleberries 17 Posted August 28, 2018 Thats a great improvement. I like it! The use of noise on the fills is a good idea too.
Boolean Games 3 Posted November 25, 2018 Some of my latest work, I feel I am getting a lot better and designed my own logo too! Recently fallen (more so than before but from an artists perspective now I suppose?) for isometric Vector art, I'll share some of that soon too. And yes, the minion needs legs... https://boolean.games
gdenby 531 Posted November 25, 2018 Hello, again, Good work. Coming right along. 1 critique. Shift the transition line between the black and the grey so it is at the center of the orange indicator. 1 Boolean Games reacted to this iMac 27" Retina, c. 2015: OS X 10.11.5: 3.3 GHz I c-5: 32 Gb, AMD Radeon R9 M290 2048 Mb iPad 12.9" Retina, iOS 10, 512 Gb, Apple pencil Huion WH1409 tablet

GarryP 443 Posted November 27, 2018 In the UK we have 'plates' (stickers) that people put on their cars to denote which kind of driver they are: A red "L" for a Learner - someone who has not yet passed their driving test - and a green "P" for Probationary (used to be called Provisional) for someone who has just passed their test and wants to tell other drivers to be aware of that fact. Because of this, the "Wheel Power" graphic seems to indicate - to me at least - that someone is almost ready to take their test. Is this what was intended? I only ask as it wasn't clear to me what it was for, if it was 'for' anything at all that is. Just curious.
