Exporting vectors without losing the effects?

Recommended Posts

Hi, is there any way to export vector files from AD for iPad with all the effects applied? I know SVG format won’t keep them, and I’ve tried all PDF versions available for export with no avail; same with EPS. I love working on my iPad and I can do almost all the work in Designer, but I need the end product in AI format, and re-doing the FX effects in Illustrator is too time consuming (and letting the effects alone for AI is impossible for me, I’m doing realistic vector portraits and I need all my my effects applied in real time).

I apologize for my poor English, I’m not a native speaker.

Thank you in advance for any answer.

Thank you for your quick reply!

My question isn’t for a particular file but for any file; I think it’s my fault, I should have said that I want to export the effects without being rasterized. They get exported in PDF format but instead of the original vector files which contain FX I get square raster files with said effects. I think this was already discussed but I can’t find the thread.

I will send a file with applied effects in the link you have provided if I’m doing something wrong and the FX should be saved as vector objects and manipulated as such in other softwares.

Thank you again

iuli

PS I don’t know what I’m doing wrong with the text size. It might be because I’m writing from my iPad. Thank you for editing my post.

What about rasterizing the effects only? In case I do a stroke with 3D effect, convert it to curves and export this to pdf everything gets rasterized but actually I would love to see the geometry to stay vector and only the 3D effect on top be a rasterized bitmap. This is sort of essential if you do multilayered prints or prints with a cut contour.

So forgive a stupid question .. what’s the point of applying effects if it can’t be exported??

The effects can be exported, but only if:

  • You export to a raster format; or
  • You allow rasterization of the effect and the object it's applied to.

If you must have a vector export (not raster), and you cannot allow rasterization of the effect or the objects, then I think you're right that theres no reason to use the effects in that project.

Thanks Walt

Is there anyway to export an Affinity Design native file with vector effects included, for backup purposes?

what if I need to uninstall the app and need to reload it ... from what I know , that would delete all current files within the app and start it from scratch again ... how do I do that, while still keep all the native vector files I been working on?

TIA

You should be able to Save your native Affinity files to some location that will be preserved when you delete the program, but I can't tell you how.

If your files as stored "on my ipad", you should have your project files in Files > On My iPad > Affinity Desiger. Make a copy of the files you need outside the "Affinity Designer" folder and you will be fine :)

Hi there ... I’ve checked but that folder ONLY has the exported files, NOT the native Affinity Design files. It’s set to “on my iPad”. I want to be sure to have the native files backed up so that if I re-install the whole Affinity Design app, that I will have all the Affinity Design NATIVE files, with all the FX effects etc etc still available.

where does one find and back up the native files?

Setting the option to On my ipad will only affect new files. Our default locations are either "On my iPad" or on iCloud, in the Affinity Designer folder. When you delete the app, it only deletes the Affinity Designer from "On my iPad". If that's empty, I cannot tell where you saved your files. It would have been a different location you chose by doing a Save As operation.
