Move Tool: How do I disable or change that blue selection with blue dots?

Recommended Posts

Hi, timl206,

Don't think there is any way. It may be called the move tool, but the tool also facilitates resizing, rotation and shearing. That is why the dots, etc. are there for manual work.

If you want to move accurately, turn on snapping, adjust grid sizing, adjust nudge distances, and work with the transform dialog. There will be on screen feedback showing exact positioning data, high lights appear when objects are aligned, hints when objects are equal distances apart. Not hard at all. The transform dialog allows positioning, resizing, etc to amazingly fine levels of precision.

Go to „Preferences“ and choose the „Tools“ tab (don’t know the precise English wording, because I use the app in German) and select the appropriate size.

Using the English interface language option, it’s ‘Preferences > Tools > Tool Handle Size’.

@timl206, those 'blue dots' are the handles of the Move Tool's selection box. Aside from being able to set their size in Preferences > Tools, you can also opt to hide them & the selection box itself when transforming the selected object:

  • Hide Selection Hide Selection—when selected, the object's selection box is temporarily hidden when transforming the object. If this option is off, the selection box remains visible during transformation. The selected behavior persists across all objects unless it is manually switched.

Transforming includes moving as well as resizing, rotating, or shearing, so by using that option it should not block seeing anything you want to see while using the tool.

I think this option should also hide the selection box when nugding using arrow keys (and if enabled it also should not show the blue margin arrows that appear for 1 s when using arrow keys)
