I have W10Home 64bit on my PC. When opening an image and select any of the selection tools I am unable to get the Mode working. The New, Add, Subtract and Intersect Modes are always grey. I reinstalled Affinity but still unable to work with Modes. Need your help to solve the problem. Thank you.

Hi Luis Silva,

Welcome to the forums :)

Could you please attach a screenshot of your layers panel whilst trying to use the tool?

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!

From the dashed boxes in the toolbar in that screenshot it looks like the application is in the middle of a View > Configure Toolbar... Operation. That would need to be completed before continuing to use the application.

Thanks for that, as @walt.farrell has mentioned, it appears you are mid configuration of the toolbar and the tool will not work correctly during this time. Do you have a panel displayed as below open currently?

I reinstalled Affinity Photo and there was no change. Still unable to Customize Toolbar. Any other suggestion ? I believe the answer is yes but,  just in case... Is Affinity Photo compatible with W10 Home version 10.0.17134 ? Once again thank for trying to help.

I am unable to customise Toolbar. This is what I got:

That screenshot shows the dashed boxes in the toolbar, just like in your first screenshot. That indicates you are already in the middle of a "Configure Toolbar..." operation, just like @walt.farrell said.

The dashed boxes are one indication that you are already in the middle of customizing the toolbar. Another is the "Customize Toolbar" window @Dan C asked about in this earlier post (which you have yet to respond to).

To get that window to open, select the "Customize Toolbar..." item on the View menu -- in your earlier screenshot it is on the left, below "Show Toolbar." If it is greyed out, it means you are already in the middle of customizing the toolbar. So if it is greyed out, dismiss the View menu & look for the "Customize Toolbar" window on your screen. If you still can't find it there let us know & someone will tell you what to do next. (It won't be me because I use a Mac & the proceduce might be different.)

The Status Bar will not (at least on Macs) include anything about the status of the "Customize Toolbar" window.

All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.4.1 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7

Do you know a way to get the "Customised Toolbar" in View ?

Thank you

The reason you can select Customise Toolbar or do anything is because Affinity Photo thinks you are already in the middle of customising the Toolbar. That’s why the menu option is ‘greyed out’, it won’t let you Customise the Toolbar twice!

If you can’t find the Customise Toolbar panel to close it, try quitting the program, then pressing and holding down the Control key while you launch Photo again.

You will get a Clear User Data panel, with the first three options ticked. Press Clear and see if that does it.

Windows PCs. Photo and Designer, latest non-beta versions.
