laurencem
Hi - new Affinity user here I have a mosaic tile I want to use to create a repeating pattern - please see attached. I could of course remove the white background and create a large image with many repeats. However, I'd really like to have a single repeat pattern which can be instanced as a simple square image to be repeated in my 3d design software as this will give much more flexibility. What would be the best way to achieve this in Affinity? Many thanks, Laurence

laurencem
Many thanks Gabe I've got to this stage - what is the best way to continue? The clone doesn't seem to do anything here. Cheers, Laurence
John Rostron
I would first set the background colour (white) to transparent (Use the Flood Select Tool, and click on any white area and press Delete, then Ctrl-D to remove the selection). Then separate the left and right halves into two separate layers. Do this by using the rectangular selection to select the right half of the tiling image, ensuring that the margin passes through the gap down the middle. Then cut and paste (Ctrl-X, Ctrl-V). This will generate a layer on top. You can then move the right-half leftwards across the left half (use the Move tool) so that the whole tiles (on the right) overlap their part-counterparts on the left. When this is done to your satisfaction, merge the layers (Select both layers, then Layer > Merge Visible). You will need to crop the image to remove the transparent areas at each side, and most of the transparent area at the top and bottom. Following the crop you must rasterise the image (Layer > Rasterise) to remove the hidden surplus area around the sides. The final image will be narrower than your original but it should tile properly. It should now look like this: John laurencem 1 Quote Windows 10, Affinity Photo 1.10.5 Designer 1.10.5 and Publisher 1.10.5 (mainly Photo), now ex-Adobe CC CPU: AMD A6-3670.
