FeatherGraceDesigns
I have the original files from Kyle's Brushes before he sold out to Adobe. Does anyone know if they can be used with Affinity Designer?
Staff stokerg Posted August 8, 2018 Staff Share Posted August 8, 2018 Hi FeatherGraceDesigns and Welcome to the Forums, Do you know what file extension the brushes have? If it's .abr then you should be able to import them into Designer

firstdefence
Kyles brushes are packaged as Adobe Tools Presets with an extension of .TPL not ABR. Kyle Webster shared some inking brushes as *.abr for Inktober a couple of years ago. They’re still available at the time of writing. That was nice of him, I have Kyles Mega Pack, packaged as Tool Presets although on import Adobe gives you the option to import as Brush presets instead of Tools presets, which means you can export them out as ABR. Unfortunately they don't all translate well into Affinity Photo. In Adobe Photoshop the brushes have settings that interact with pixel layers, the same brushes import into Affinity Photo lacking some of these features. Some brushes get corrupted or don't perform the functions they were designed to do in Adobe Photoshop in Affinity Photo. Textures seem to have a hard time being translated and tweaking settings to get an approximation of the brush in Affinity Photo can be tedious at best with sub par results to boot.
