Textpath support for SVG import

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Designer does not seem to support the textpath element when importing SVG files. Currently I know of no way to import curved text in editable form.

The example on the linked page

<svg viewBox="0 0 100 100" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg">

  <!-- to hide the path, it is usually wrap into a <defs> element -->
  <!-- <defs -->
  <path id="MyPath" fill="none" stroke="red"
          d="M10,90 Q90,90 90,45 Q90,10 50,10 Q10,10 10,40 Q10,70 45,70 Q70,70 75,50" />
  <!-- </defs> -->

  <text>
    <textPath href="#MyPath">
      The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
    </textPath>
  </text>

</svg>

looks like this in the browser

but looks like this in Designer:

This is a shame, since the tools for editing curved text are pretty good. It would be great to have this functionality.

Thanks,
Ville

But since I'm the first one in four years, I don't think the odds are too good… 😞

You've probably already noticed that Serif is only "inspired" by user requests when developing its applications, not "directed".
So, any way of "voting" does not affect it in any way during the implementation of the requirements, nor does it even affect the development priorities in any way. If the request is good and fits into the application concept, then one request is enough for its implementation. But if the request is not good, or does not fit into the concept and development plans, even a hundred of contributions will not change anything.
So you don't have to despair, although I'm afraid you're right 🙂
