Petar Petrenko
Hi, main workspace in Designer is named "Artboard" and we can create as many as we need, opposite to only one "page". Why then when we create a new document in Designer a new page is created instead of an artboard? Coffee
This is an interesting question, I was always wondering why it doesn't automatically create an artboard when you create a new document without having to click the insert artboard option. You have the option of using artboards, or not, when you create a new document. It is perfectly feasible to do a complete design with no artboard at all. You simply create objects and layers on the page as needed. Or on the pasteboard, if you are not working with View > View Mode > Clip to Canvas selected. Aammppaa
@Petar Petrenko There is a check box in the New Document that does create an artboard rather than a page - if you prefer. Petar Petrenko
Yes, I know there is a check box, but Designer should start a new document with Artboard and offer a check box for Page. walt.farrell
That's a different suggestion, in my opinion. The Affinity team probably wouldn't want to change the default and inconvenience all the users who don't use artboards, so that really requires a new preference for how new documents are created. Or, perhaps, for Designer to remember the user's last chosen setting and use it for new documents. I'm sure that one has been requested in the past. But you can have only one page with fixed dimensions and you can create as many artboards as you like with different dimensions (and with layers, too). walt.farrell
Yes, but there are two modes for using Designer. One with artboards, one without. It's incorrect to say that"'the main workspace is named "Artboard"' because that ignores one way, the default way, of using Designer. I seldom use artboards; I'm perfectly happy in most of my work (so far) to use the page and the pasteboard. Petar Petrenko
Just let's see what others have to say. I think that if the check box for "Create artboard" was set as default on the very begging of Designer, that very few users would even notice that a "page" option exists. Aammppaa
The suggestion to make the Create Artboard check box sticky is perhaps a good one. There are very many areas of Affinity where remembering the user's preferences, or last used setup would be a welcome addition! Yes, something like as in ID, PS or AI Every change you've made (numeric vales, palettes...) is remembered when opening a new document. And I never use artboards except to help users discover why things are messed up and they cannot export everything for some reason or not at all to a pdf. I don't wanna have to click a checkbox and you don't want to either. To resolve this choice issue the idea of a preference or being a sticky choice is what is needed.
