philhendry
I'm quite new to using Affinity Designer 'in anger' - I've just been forced to upgrade to High Sierra, so my old 32 bit drawing packages no longer work... Forcing my hand! Anyway, I do a lot of technical illustration, and one thing I find very handy (to reduce the amount of mental arithmetic I have to do) is the ability to move the origin of the grid. Is there a way to do that in Affinity? Most other apps I've used allow this - either via a dialog or by dragging the origin, or (preferably) both. Sorry if this has been asked before - I can't find reference to it in the book, nor on the forum - but it may just be that I'm searching for the wrong terminology. Thanks, Phil
Staff MEB Posted August 3, 2018 Staff Share Posted August 3, 2018 Hi Phil, Welcome to Affinity Forums Currently this is not possible but it's being implemented for v1.7 (no eta). philhendry
Okay, thanks... I'll look forward to getting 1.7 then. And in the meantime, my leetle grey cells will get extra exercise!
somnolentsurfer
Is this possible in 1.7.3? I can't seem to find an option in the Grid Manager?

You have to choose one of the options other than Automatic (Basic, Advanced or Cubed) then there is a checkbox available to Show axis editing handles. The will show up at the origin (top left). Old Bruce
There is no numeric input way but you can first set up a grid so you have an intersection where you want the grid origin to be. Say 14 mm x, 23mm y. Then drag the Spread/Page origin (have Ruler showing and drag from the intersection to 14 x, 23 y) Have Snap to Grid enabled and the origin is now at 0,0 which is 14mm and 23 mm from the top left corner. Double click on the Axis handles and it will jump to the 0, 0 (14mm and 23mm). This would also work if you have an object at the location and have snapping on for objects you could just drag the Axis handles to that, I was assuming you wanted to start with a blank page.
