gilsoncav
I have a group with some objects and Symbols inside it (see the first screenshot). When i use select + CMD key to select objects inside this group it selects the objects and also selects the objects inside the symbols. When a move or edit the X or Y of the selection, the objects inside the symbols also move multiplying the move distance in an awkward way (see the second screenshot after a -25pt move in Y. How to fix this? how to make the selection selects objects within a group but stop the selection at the first level of symbols? (i think this should be the default behaviour, by the way)
firstdefence
Could you not just select the Move Tool, and drag a selection over the text and icons, then click on the Transform Panel and either type in the required move in the Y axis or click in the Y box and move everything selected by pressing the down arrow key or in Windows use the scroll button if your mouse has one I think pressing the shift key while doing this will move the selection in units of 10 so in your case units of 10pts. I've just created the symbols and dummy text and done just this and it works fine, no funny movement with the symbols. gilsoncav
Thanks a lot taking the time trying to help!! But in this scenario that you simulated, you are selecting the whole group. I my scenario is a subset of objects within a group. Check the video:
Aammppaa
You need to select in a slightly different way… CMD click will indeed select within the symbol (I think it always drills down to the lowest object in a group / layer) Double click drills down one layer at a time. So double click one item in your group, repeatedly if you need to drill down several layers. Now shift click will select other objects at the same level of the layer tree, so you can easily add to your selection. gilsoncav
Also thanks! But it remains a problem to me, because after you drill down with the double click, you have to select the same level objects individually using SHIFT + click (i tried SHIFT + drag, but no luck). When you have 21+ objects it's not practical do select this way.

Maybe I have misunderstood what you mean, but it should be easy enough to click on the first object in that level of the layer tree & then scroll down to the last one & Shift click on it. Is that not working for you? firstdefence
I'm thinking out loud here, but it looks like the components of the symbols are being relocated. Just out of curiosity, if you detached those symbols I wonder if they would behave as you expect them to and move in parallel with the text. I'd make a copy of the file and test this idea out in the copy. Update: Just tried that and it works, so the issue is that cmd + drag select goes too deep on the symbols and selects the components of the symbols instead of the symbol itself. What cmd + drag select should select... What cmd + Drag select actually selects... Anggelomos
Hello! What worked for me was to select the objects (ctrl + click), disable symbols sync, move the objects and then re-enable symbols sync. 2019-01-29 08-02-58.mp4
